Reflections on True Love and Words for Nearly-weds

Let  me  not  to  the  marriage  of  true  minds
admit  impediments;  love  is  not  love
that  alters  when  it  alteration  finds
nor  bends  with  the  remover  to  remove.

O  no!  It  is  an  ever  fixed  mark
that  looks  on  tempests  and  is  never  shaken -
it  is  the  star  to  every  wandering  bark
whose  worth's  unknown,  though  it's  height  be  taken.

Love's  not  times  fool,  though  rosy  lips  and  cheeks
within  his  bending  sickles  compass  come
love  alters  not  with  his  brief  hours  and  weeks
but  bears  it  out  even  to  the  edge  of  doom.

If  this  be  error,  and  upon  me  proved,
I  ne'er  writ,  nor  no  man  e'er  loved.

Of  all  Shakespeare's  sonnets,  this  is  my  favourite.

His  lyrical  words,  intriguing  imagery,  flowing  rhythm  and  controlled  rhyming  scheme  all  combine  to  create  one  of  the  best  expressions  of  true  Love  that  I  have  ever  come  across.

It  is  a  Love  that  stays  is  dependable  during  the  storms  of  life.

It  is  a  Love  that  remains  steadfast  and  eternal,  though  all  else  changes  with  time.

It  is  a  Love  that  is  strange  and  not  completely  understandable,  but  absolutely  vital  for  finding  ones  way  in  the  turbulence  of  life.

It  is  a  Love  that  does  not  change  just  because  something  else  has  come  a  long  to  claim  it,  but  a  Love  that  remains  faithful  when  everything  is  conspiring  to  take  it  away.

These  images  of  Love  can  be  found  throughout  the  Bible,  but  the  Bible  takes  it  one  step  further:

Love  is  sacrifice,  it  is  agape,  and  only  through  God  can  we  really  receive  and  pass  on  this  Love,  because  only  God  as  agape  loved  perfectly  -  to  the  point  of  death  by  crucifixion.

The  Love  demanded  in  the  Bible,  the  Love  demand  for  God  and  for  each  other,  is  this  Love,  this  agape,  life-giving  Love.

It  is  HUGE.  It  is  Love.  And  it  is  True.

Last  Saturday,  I  had  the  honour  of  attending  the engagement  party  of  two  dear  friends.  He  used  to  be  my  youth  group  leader,  her  I  have  only  met  a  handful  of  times,  but  I  already  know  her  to  be  a  woman  of  beauty  and  agape  love.  As  he  is.

It  has  been  a  privilege  to  watch  their  relationship  grow  and  develop,  and  it  was  a  joy  to  watch  them  at  the  party. Their  relationship  is  based  not  on  their  love  for  each  other,  but  their  love  for  God.  Their  joy  in  His  eternal  agape  love  and  their  willingness  to  be  a  tool  to  transmit  that  along  to  the  rest  of  the  world.

You  could  see  it.

You  could  see  it  in  the  love  their  eyes  held  for  each  other  and  the  way  the  worked  together,  and  it  could  be  heard  in  every  word  they  said  about  each  other.

True  love.  They  have  found  true  love.  Not  in  each  other,  but  in  God.  God  who  has  expressed  His  Love  for  them  both  by  leading  them  to  each  other.

Now,  as  they  move  towards  marriage,  my  prayer  is  that  they  will  remember  the  truth  about  Love.

The  Truth  that  Love  is  Eternal.  The  Truth  that  Love  is  Vital.  The  Truth  that  Love  is  Faithful.  The  Truth  that  Love  is  Demanding.  The  Truth  that  Love  is  Sacrifice.  The  Truth  the  Love  is  God  because  God  is  the  Source  of  all  Love  and  the  Ultimate  Expresser  of  Love.

I  pray  that  they  will  always  remember  the  Truth  about  their  love  for  each  other.

That  it  is  Gift  from  God.  That  without  Him  it  is  dead.  That  it  is  Given  to  them  that  they  may  share  it  first  with  each  other,  then  with  any  children  who  may  come  along  and  finally  with  all  those  they  come  in  contact  with.

I  pray  that  each  day  they  are  married  they  will  wake  up,  look  at  each  other  a  remember  that  no  matter  how  hard  it  is,  they  are  a  Gift  to  each  other,  a  precious,  hand-made  expression  of  God's  love.

I  pray  that  every  day  they  will  seek  to  live  out  the  agape  Love  that  God  has  poured  into  both,  Loving  each  other  through  acts  of  service,  even  when  their  desire  is  to  demand  service.

I  pray  that  every  day  they  remember  that  each  is  Beautifully  and Wonderfully  made  and  that  they  seek  to  say  so,  even  in  the  midst  of  hurt  and  anger,  that  God's  words  of  Love  may  find  a  voice  in  them.

I  pray  that  every  day  they  come  before  God  together,  spending  time  with  the  Source  of  their  Love  and  with  each  other,  that  they  do  not  forget  the  foundation  of  their  relationship.

I  pray  that  every  day  that  are  willing  to  set  down  what  ever  arms  and  barriers  they  wish  to  build,  and  remember  to  act  as  the  Forgivng  arms  of  God  for  each,  for  Love  forgives  all  things.

And  finally,  I  thank  God  that  the  presence  of  His  love  in  them  has  and  will  enrich  our  church  family  as  it  flows  from  them  onto  all  of  us.

Because  there  is  no  greater  Love  than  that  a  man  gives  of  himself  and  his  life,  laying  it  down  as  an  offering  for  the  uplifting  of  others,  in  the  image  of  the  Christ.  Amen.

Heart Bleeding on the Floor

I'm  standing  there  before  them,  smashing  through  defenses  and  screens  and  projections  that  I've  built  over  the  years.

I'm  smashing  through  the  years  of  faking  strength  and  hiding  tears  and  blood.  I'm  smashing  through  it  all.

It's  time  to  let  them  see,  time  to  let  the  whole  world  see  that  I'm  the  same  as  everyone  else.

I'm  a  heart  bleeding  on  the  floor.

I'm  a  heart  blue  and  black  staining  a  floor  red.

No  more  lies  that  the  world  doesn't  hurt.  No  more  pretense  that  the  abuse  was  minimal.  No  more  hiding  the  story  of  more  people  than  we  care  to  imagine.

Those  stories  are  true,  and  if  we  who  have  them  hide  them,  the  world  is  the  worse  for  it.

Because  as  my  bloodied,  blackened  heart  is  shown,  so  too  is  the  Hand  of  the  Master  Healer  who  is  tenderly  sowing  the  pieces  back  together.  The  Hand  of  the  Master  Healer  who  is  lovingly  closing  the  wounds  and  creating  something  beautiful  with  the  scars.

Shown  too  is  the  Blood  of  the  Lamb  crucified  at  Golgotha,  the  Blood  that  is  taking  my  Red  stains  and  washing  them  White.

Shown  too  is  the  Light  of  the  God  who  stepped  down  into  Darkness,  into  my  Darkness,  and  filled  it  with  His  Light.

And  I'm  still  smashing  those  defenses,  I'm  still  cutting  through  the  screens  and  the  projections,  but  one  day  they'll  all  be  gone.

One  day  you  will  all  be  able  to  see  the  embroidery  of  the  scars  on  my  heart,  the  white  washed  floor  on  which  I  sit,  and  you'll  know  that  our  God  is  a  God  of  Love,  of  Power  and  of  Faith,  because  I  am  just  a  heart  bleeding  on  the  floor  of  Life,  same  as  you.

The Humanity of Jesus

"Isn't  this  the  carpenter?  Isn't  this  Mary's  son  and  the  brother  of  James,  Joseph,  Judah  and  Simon?  Aren't  his  sisters  here  with  us?"  ~  Mark  6:3

Wow...

Mary's  son...

Brother  to  James,  Joseph,  Judah,  Simon,  and  at  least  two  sisters...

He  was  a  human.  He  was  very  human.

That's  the  first  thought  that  strikes  me  as  I  read  this  verse.  Jesus  was  an  oldest  child...  just  like  me...  he  had  lots  of  siblings  (unlike  me)...

He  probably  played  with  them  in  the  dust  of  the  Nazarene  streets,  worked  along  side  his  brother's  in  their  dad's  carpenters  shop.  Maybe  massaged  the  knots  out  of  Mary's  neck  and  shoulders  after  a  long  day.  Sat  and  listened  as  his  sisters  confided  their  childhood  secrets  to  him.  Leant  forward  in  the  middle  of  talking  about  what  he  had  his  friends  did  with  their  day  to  stoke  the  fire.  Thrown  a  baby  sibling  in  the  air  and  caught  them,  making  those  little  gurgling  sounds  we  all  make.  Raced  a  brother  down  a  street,  dodging  adults  and  slowing  down  to  let  the  brother  win.

Wow...

What  would  it  have  been  like  to  be  James,  Joseph,  Judah,  Simon  or  one  of  the  unnamed  girls?

Jesus  is  shown  to  be  a  man  without  sin...  His  family  declare  Him  insane...

I  wonder  how  much  that  had  to  do  with  feeling  like  they  never  measured  up...  couldn't  quite  be  the  same  as  there  perfect  older  brother...  how  much  of  it  had  to  do  with  Mary  and  Joseph  exclaiming  in  frustration  "why  can't  you  be  more  like  your  brother?"  probably  no  need  to  ask  which  brother.

But  at  the  same  time...  those  sisters  probably  felt  loved  and  protected  by  their  big  brother  in  a  way  no  girl  has  ever  experienced.  James,  Joseph,  Judah  and  Simon...  those  boys  probably  knew  that  they  could  rely  on  the  big  bro  when  times  got  tough.

Strange...  I've  never  really  considered  Jesus'  human  side  much.  The  side  of  Him  that  would  have  sat  on  a  roof  in  a  small  village  in  the  evening  air  listening  to  His  younger  siblings  talk  over  each  other  in  their  excitement  about  their  day.  The  side  of  Him  that  would  have  cradled  a  baby  while  His  mother  rushed  to  finish  dinner.  The  side  of  Him  that  would  have  lived  in  a  house  cluttered  by  the  mess  of  seven  or  more  child.  The  side  of  Him  that  would  have  gone  to  school  and  been  trained  in  the  Scriptures.

But  somehow...  it's  comforting...  it's  comforting  to  know  that  He's  been  there.  He's  experienced  the  distracted  parents,  the  overenthusiastic  siblings,  the  hormonal  sisters  and  mother,  the  demands  of  looking  after  younger  siblings... comforting,  because  it  shows  He  does  actually  understand  my  day  to  day  life.

And  I  just  got  a  mental  image  of  Him  reading  those  words  over  my  shoulder  and  nodding  His  head  with  a  chuckle  "that's  what  I've  been  trying  to  tell  you,  my  precious."  He  says.  "Now,  given  that  you  are  one  of  my  sisters,  why  don't  you  tell  me  those  secrets  hidden  in  that  mind  of  yours?"

Still Just a Scared Little Girl

"Am  I  good  enough  yet?  Have  I  done  something  wrong?"  the  little  girl  peers  out  of  the  young  woman  eyes.

"Why  doesn't  she  hug  us  any  more?"  she  whispers  to  the  aging  woman  beside  her.

"She's  tired,  sweetheart.  She'll  come  hug  us  when  she's  had  some  rest."

The  little  girl  nods,  curling  on  the  chair.  A  noise  comes  rushing  through  the  ears  and  the  little  girl  tightens. "Why  is  she  so  angry  all  the  time?"  she  asks,  tears  pricking  at  the  words.  "Why  doesn't  she  tell  us  we're  pretty  and  clever  and  she's  proud  of  us  any  more?"

"She's  stressed,  my  love.  She'll  come  tell  us  when  work  gets  easier."  The  aging  woman  touches  her  forehead,  seeking  to  wipe  away  the  fear.

The  girl  nods,  playing  with  the  end  of  her  sleeves.  "Why  doesn't  she  listen  to  us  when  we  talk  to  her  any  more,  or  take  us  out  for  tea?  Why  is  she  always  checking  her  phone  or  telling  us  not  now?"

"She's  lonely,  my  dear.  She'll  spend  time  with  us  when  she  can."

The  little  girl  nods,  a  tear  trickling  down  her  cheek.  "Why  doesn't  SHE  help  us  anymore?  Why  does  she  complain  about  needing  to  do  things  for  us?"

"She's  busy,  my  precious.  She'll  come  help  us  when  she's  not  as  busy."  The  aging  woman  stoops  to  hug  her.

The  little  girl  nods,  hiding  her  face  in  the  pillow.  "Why  doesn't  she  buy  us  things  any  more?  Doesn't  she  think  about  us  any  more?"

"She  has  other  things  to  buy,  my  treasure.  She'll  buy  something  for  us  when  the  time  is  right.  Hush  now,  my  child.  Don't  say  anything,  don't  cry.  That'll  only  make  things  worse.  Be  brave,  be  strong."

"I  can't."

"Yes,  you  can.  Come  on.  We  have  work  to  do.  We've  just  got  to  put  our  heads  down  and  work."

"Will  they  want  us  then?"

"Who,  my  dear?"

"Everyone."

"I  don't  know.  Why?"

The  little  girl  doesn't  answer,  she  just  stares  at  the  pile  of  work  in  front  of  her.  "We  can't  do  it.  We  don't  have  enough  time,  We  don't  have  enough  knowledge."

"Yes,  we  can.  We're  smart.  At  least...  that's  what  they  say."

"You're  scared  too."  The  little  girl  looks  at  her.

"Scared,  no.  Tired?  Yes.  So  very  tired."

"They  don't  want  us,  do  they?"

"Who,  my  dear?"

"Everyone."

"Why  do  you  say  that?"

"I  don't  know.  But  I  wouldn't  want  us  either."

"Why,  my  dear?"

"Because  we're  scared,  we're  tired,  we're  ugly,  we're  not  good  enough."

"Hush,  child.  Don't  believe  those  lies.  We  have  to  do  our  work."

"We  can't"  she  begins  to  cry  in  earnest,  soaking  the  pillow.

"Why  not,  my  dear?"

"We  can't  do  it!  It  won't  be  good  enough.  We  don't  know  enough.  We  don't  understand  enough.  We're  stupid  and  worthless."

"Hush,  hush..."  the  aging  woman  pulls  her  close,  stroking  her  hair.  "Have  you  spoken  with  Daddy?"  she  asks,  her  eyes  lingering  on  the  words  that  were  fading  in  the  black  of  their  room.

The  little  girl  shook  her  head.  "We  don't  have  time.  There's  always  work  to  be  doing."

"Do  you  miss  Him?"

The  little  girl  nodded.

"Do  you  want  to  talk  to  Him?"

The  little  girl  nodded  again.

"Talk  to  Him."

"We  can't."

"Why  not?"

"We  need  to  do  our  work.  They'll  get  angry."  Her  little  girl  hands  tremble  as  they  reach  for  her  books.

"We  can't  please  everyone."

"Why  aren't  we  good  enough?"

"Why  do  you  say  that?"

"I'm  scared."

"Daddy  loves  us.  He  says  we're  good  enough.  He  says  we're  beautiful.  He  says  we  please  Him."

The  little  girl  smiled.  "Daddy  would  know."

This Selfish Heart

I'm  breaking  to  breathe  and  to  think  and  to  study  God  before  I  begin  to  study  the  course  again.  And  I  open  my  favourite  blog,  wondering  what  soul-nourishing  and  breath-abling  words  she'd  written  today,  that  Canadian  farmer's  wife  and  mother  whose  love  for  God  shines  in  all  she  says.

And  as  I  read  her  words,  I  find  my  breath  is  going,  my  heart  is  contracting...  or,  more  accurately,  my  breath  is  leaving  because  I'm  seeing  my  heart  for  the  size  it  is:  tiny...

Because  she's  in  Africa  and  all  around  her the poor are bringing their widows offering,  throw  their  last  two  copper  coins  onto  the  offering  table  and  she's  crying  to  know  why  the  rich  don't  give  because  they  think  it  will  ruin  them  and  why  the  poor  do  give  because  they  know  it  will  make  them.

And  I  find  my  breath  going  because  I  know  I  am  the  rich  who  doesn't  give  because  I  fear  it  will  ruin  me...  and  why  can't  I  risk  everything  I've  got,  give  as  freely  as  the  poor  give?  Why  does  this  selfish  heart  cling  to  the  trifles  God  has  given  me  in  His  love  instead  of  working  as  His  ambassador  -  selfishly,  uncomfortably,  honestly,  boldly...

Why,  when  I  feel  His  selfless  hand  touch  my  selfish  heart,  do  I  shrink  away?

The  selfless  and  the  selfish  can  not  exist  together...  so  why  do  I  cling  to  the  selfish,  and  live  as  a  beggar?  Why  do  I  not  let  His  selfless  hand  destroy  my  selfish  heart  and  create  a  heart  of  abounding  love?

And  I  know  I'm  not  the  only  one  depriving  myself  of  His  love  by  loving  myself  and  my  wants  first...  all  around  me  I  see  Christians  sick  with  the  same  starvation,  killing  themselves  by  feeding  on  self-love  and  not  on  God-love.

I'm  as  bad  as  the  rest  of  them...

And  I  see  the  truth  of  those  crazy,  powerful  words  that  crazy  powerful  carpenter  spoke  on  a  distant  mount:  "blessed  are  the  poor,  for  they  will  inherit  the  kingdom  of  God"...  the  Kingdom  of  God  is  the  Kingdom  of  Love  and  the  poor  live  the  love  far  more  often  than  the  rich,  for  they  give  all  for  the  Kingdom...  and  the  Kingdom  gives  to  them

And  only  last  Friday  a  bishop  from  the  Congo  spoke  in  chapel,  his  words  full  of  love  and  sacrifice,  his  ambitions  soaring  higher  than  that  of  any  man,  woman,  boy  and  girl  provided  for  that  I  have  ever  met:  he  dreamt  of  building  a  guest  house,  so  that  he  had  more  money  to  care  for  the  poor,  the  orphaned,  the  widowed.  He  dreamt  of  feeding  his  people  on  the  Word  of  God,  the  only  food  that  matters.  He  dreamt  of  giving  his  all  so  that  others  might  have  all.

And  I  find  the  selfless  hand  of  God  reaching  for  my  selfish  heart  and  my  breathing  is  ragged  and  I'm  wondering  if  I  can  make  that  change.

To  live  as  a  widow  giving  her  last  copper  coins.  To  be  a  Ruth  who  abandons  all  for  the  love  of  God.  To be an Esther,  working  for  the  materially  destitute  of  God's  people  because  I  have  been  given  wealth  for  such  a  time  as  this.  To  be  a  Mary,  willing  to  risk  my  life,  my  honour,  the  respect  of  those  who  love  me  and  who  I  love  so  that  the  plans  of  God  can  be  worked  out.

But  can  this  selfish  heart  be  made  selfless  and  loving?

Only  by  the  selfless,  loving  offering  of  Jesus'  blood.

And  my  breathing  slowly  settles,
though  my  heart  stills  tries  to  flee,
the  love  of  God  will  do  His  work  in  me.

Big, Deep Breaths

"and  how  does  that  breathing  thing  go  again?"  I  sent  the  message  off,  slumping  forward  over  the  bathroom  vanity,  forehead  pressed  to  the  mirror.  It  had  been  a  very,  very  long  day.

"We  did  mediation  today,"  came  the  answer.  "Do  it  with  me...  breathe  in...  and  out...  and  in..."

I  chuckled,  relaxing  in  the  humour.  In  and  out...  that's  all  it  took.  In  with  the  good  stuff...  out  with  the  bad...

In  and  out...

Simple.

So  why  is  it  so  hard?

Why  do  the  mounting  pressures  of  assignments  due  and  looming  exams  to  cause  the  breath  to  go  ragged,  the  heart  to  skip  beats,  the  mind  to  spew?

Why  do  the  long  days  and  short  weeks  cause  the  breath  to  stutter  and  falter,  out  before  it  was  even  in?

Why  does  it  feel  like  I'm  scaling  Mt  Everest,  less  and  less  life-giving  oxygen  available  for  my  lungs  the  more  I  climb  the  mountains?

Why  is  it  that  the  less  I  breathe  the  more  the  words  I  wouldn't  even  think  when  I  can  breathe  come  out  of  my  mouth

And  at  times  I'm  driven  to  my  knees  gasping  for  breath  and  I  have  to  remember  that  the  Holy  Spirit  is  the  air  I  breathe.  That  I  need  to  remember  to  slow  down  and  let  Him  fills  my  lungs,  cleaning  me  of  the  foul  words,  the  harsh  thoughts,  the  bitter  actions.

There  are  nights  when  all  I  can  do  is  sink  into  my  bed,  face  damp  and  encrusted  with  salt  and  just  let  Him  do  the  breathing  for  me.

Just  in...  and  out...  in...  and  out...

In  with  the  good,  the  pure,  the  righteous,  the  Reality  of  Daughter-ship,  the  Promise  of  Heaven,  the  Assurance  of  Victory,  the  Gift  of  Grace,  the  Healing  of  Humility,  the  Peace  of  Patience.

Out  with  the  ugly,  impure,  the  unrighteous,  the  Lust,  the  Greed,  the  Self-Centredness,  the  Lie  of  Imperfect,  the  Curse  of  the  Swearword,  the  Trap  of  Anger.

In...  and  out...  in...  and  out...

On  and  on  because  there  is  always  so  much  Ugly  to  breathe  out...  and  so  much  more  Beautiful  breathe  out...  until  the  end,  when  I  breathe  out  for  the  last  time  and  wake  up  in  Heaven...

Guiding Us Home

We  went  for  a  walk,  the  puppy  and  I.  It  was  late,  the  sun  had  set  and  the  way  was  lit  by  street  lights.

I  was  fed  up  with  studying,  and  the  family  was  fed  up  with  her  energy,  so  we  went  for  a  walk.

I  decided  that  we  both  needed  a  longer  walk  than  she'd  been  on  before,  so  I  took  her  a  route  she  wasn't  used  to.

At  first,  she  was  happy,  pulling  a  little  too  hard  at  the  leash  in  her  excitement  and  sense  of  discovery.

But  the  further  we  got  away  from  her  comfort  zone,  the  less  willing  she  was  to  go  where  I  led  her.

It  reached  a  climax  when  we  arrived  at  the  local  oval.  She  refused  to  go  down  on  the  oval  with  me,  setting  her  face  back  the  way  had  come,  straining  against  the  leash.

I  knelt  beside  her  and  told  she'd  just  have  to  trust  me.  I  knew  where  we  were  going,  even  if  she  didn't,  and  I'd  take  her  home  safe.

She  didn't  understand,  and  continued  fighting  to  go  back  the  way  we'd  come.  Many  times,  she  stood  up  on  her  back  legs,  preferring  that  to  following  me.

Still,  she  did  follow  me.  She  was  too  small  to  do  otherwise,  my  hold  on  her  leash  too  firm.

She  followed  me,  her  reluctance  obvious,  her  desire  to  go  the  familiar  way  clear  as  she  continued  to  stop  and  turn  around,  looking  back.

You  could  tell  the  moment  she  realized  we  were  going  home.  We  turned  the  corner  at  the  shopping  centre,  up  the  main  road.  She  stopped  fighting  to  go  back  and  started  trotting  a  long  happily.

More  than  that,  she  started  straining  at  the  leash  to  go  faster,  to  pick  up  speed.

She  was  too  eager.  She  wanted  to  run  the  rest  of  the  way.  Many  times  along  the  way  I  had  to  stop  her,  make  her  catch  her  breath  and  look  around  her  for  a  bit. I  knew  that  if  she  didn't,  she  wouldn't  be  able  to  walk  the  entire  way.

The  last  stretch  we  run.  Dog  and  human  both  aware  that  home  was  only  a  few  feet  away,  running  to  cross  the  threshold.

When  we  got  in,  home  after  our  long  trip,  the  puppy  ran  start  to  her  water  bowl.  She  did  not  stop  to  find  and  greet  the  rest  of  the  family,  she  went  straight  for  the  water,  lapping  it  up  keenly  and  enthusiastically.

As  I  watched  her,  I  couldn't  help  but  reflect  on how  similar  our  walk  had  been  to  my  lifelong  walk  with  God.

God  is  guiding  me  Home,  He  has  promised  a  Home  with  Him,  in  Heaven,  as  His  child.

Yet  how  many  times  does  He  have  to  kneel  down  beside  me  and  tell  me  not  to  worry,  to  trust  Him,  because  He  knows  the  way  and  He'll  get  me  there  safely?

How  many  times  have  I  stopped,  staring  back  down  the  way  we've  come,  wondering  why  He  just  can't  take  me  home  the  familiar  way,  the  way  I  expect?

How  many  times  has  He  had  to  drag  me,  while I  kicked  and  screamed?

Far  too  many  times.  More  often  then  I've  walked  willingly.

Then,  of  course,  there  are  the  times  I've  caught  sight  of  Home,  I've  realized  that  yes,  He  really  is  taking  me  there.  Then,  I've  picked  up  and  run,  straining  at  my  leash,  wondering  why  He  isn't  going  faster,  why  He  keeps  telling  me  to  stop  and  rest,  ignoring  everything  around  me  that  He  wants  me  to  see,  forgetting  to  just  spend  time  with  Him.

We  haven't  reached  my  home  yet.  We're  still  walking,  still  moving  along.  But  I  wonder,  what  will  my  reaction  be  when  I  make  it  Home?

Will  my  first  impulse  be  to  run  to  that  Spring  of  Living  Water  that  flows  through  His  City  from  His  throne?  Or  will  I  be  distracted,  looking  around  for  loved  ones  lost?

I  suspect  that,  like  our  puppy,  I  will  run  straight  for  those  Waters.  I  will  run  straight  to  the  Relief,  Life  and  Love  that  only  He  can  give,  and  my  Heart  will  sing  praises  of  Thankfulness  to  the  One  who  brought  me  home.

And  I  can  hardly  wait.
